From modest beginnings in Altoona, PA, starting with just eight customers and a single employee, Phonepower®, Inc. now operates from office locations in three states, serving customers throughout the world.
Phonepower® has operated 24 hours a day, seven days a week for more than four decades of un-interrupted service, in the finest tradition of professional dedication. As a critical service profession, we've served through nuclear disasters, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, ice storms, blizzards and numerous other "challenges".
We're proud of our people, and pledge to each subscriber the finest possible service available in the market today, tomorrow, and well into the future.
 

A Family Enterprise

Founded in 1954 by Irv and Joan Seltzer, Phonepower®, Inc. has maintained its personal "personality" throughout several generations of the Seltzer Family. Family members have provided significant leadership within the telemessaging and personal communications industries at the regional and national level throughout the entire history of the company.

A History of Firsts

bullet Phonepower® was the first company in the United States to utilize the Western Electric 557-B Telephone Answering Service Switchboard (April, 1956). It is now proudly displayed in the reception area of the corporate offices.
bullet Phonepower® was the first company in the United States to use the then-new "800" (in-WATS) numbers on behalf of their Answering Service subscribers (August 1967).
bullet Phonepower® was the first company in the United States to utilize a Candela AutoTAS system (which was provided by the Diamond State Telephone Company in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1978). This system was revolutionary because it did not rely on hard-wire connections in order to serve its Answering Service subscribers.
bullet Phonepower® was the first company to utilize an Amtelco PC-MX answering system (Wilmington, 1987).
bullet Phonepower® was the first answering service in Central PA to introduce Time Billing, to more fairly and accurately charge our subscribers in direct proportion to the actual time involvement of Telephone Secretaries.
bullet Phonepower® was the first answering service in our primary coverage areas to utilize the power of wide area networking to integrate our equipment and personnel resources through state-of-the-art connectivity and fiber optic technology.
bullet Phonepower® is the first answering service in our primary coverage areas to utilize the power of the World Wide Web to enhance our capabilities and customer service.
