Location of the code depends on the type of card
you are using.
For VISA, MasterCard and Discover, the
number is the last 3 digits (usually set off by
themselves) on the Signature Panel on the back of the
card.
For American Express, look for a 4-digit
number printed above your account number on the face
of the card.
What is the purpose of this number?
Since there is no "signature" provided with an on-line credit
card payment, this number is used to verify that a customer
actually has the credit card in their possession.
